Here is a brief summary of some of Namibia's top attractions:
ETOSHA NATIONAL PARK
Etosha National Park is one of the largest game reserves in Africa and covers a vast area of 22 270 km2. There are 114 mammal species in the park and several are rare and endangered such as the Black Rhino.
About 340 bird species can be found, of which about one third is migratory.
In the dry season Etosha's wildlife is dependant on water holes, which offer excellent game viewing and photographic opportunities.
The vegetation varies from dwarf shrub savannah and grasslands around the pan to thorn bush and woodland savannah throughout the park. |

SANDWICH HARBOUR
Sandwich Harbour is situated about 50km South of Walvisbay and is a photographic paradise. In the past the lagoon was an open bay, but it has silted up during the passing years. The lagoon is fed by fresh water seeping through and is a sanctuary for a large number of birds and is a breeding ground for some fish species.
CAPE CROSS SEAL COLONY
The Cape Cross Seal Reserve spans an area of 60km2 and is situated about 130km North of Swakopmund. This reserve protects the biggest colony of Cape Fur Seals on the Namibian and South African coastline.
In 1486 the Portuguese navigator Diego Cao erected a stone cross at Cape Cross. Today two replicas can be viewed at the reserve. |
NAMIB DESERT
Namibia's name was derived from the Namibdesert, which is a long, narrow coastal desert with a varying width of 50km - 140km and spans the entire coastline of Namibia. Far from being barren, the desert is home to a variety of desert adapted fauna and flora and has a lot to offer. |
