Omuzire Bush Camp

The farm Avondschaduw, has been in the Wilckens family for over twenty years. It was the perfect setting for an African bush camp. Out of a wild dream and an idea, Omuzire Bush Camp materialized.

Omizire Bush Camp consists of three spacious safari tents for accommodation, a tent for our bush kitchen and a large multipurpose entertainment tent with adjacent boma.

The main objective was to keep the bush camp small to ensure exclusive privacy for you, your family and hunting friends and to ensure personalized service.

During your true African bush safari, you will be accommodated in one of the safari tents, each with an en-suite shower, water basin and toilet. Two of the safari tents can sleep two single guests or a couple, and are furnished with quality beds, exclusive bedding, towels, mosquito repellent and rechargeable flashlight. The third safari tent can accommodate four guests and is suitable for a hunting family. All the furniture and decor was carefully assembled to reflect the African bush theme.
Every safari tent got its own private verandah, which entices you to linger and enjoy the vibrant, buzzing African bush rhythm as you enjoy the view of the nearby birdbath and the typical African thorn bush.
Your tent is cleaned on a daily basis and clean towels and bedding are provided on a regular basis.
Due to the remoteness of the camp, the closest town is Otjiwarongo – 50km away, we are self sufficient and self sustained. We must, however, be very flexible regarding the availability of some food supplies.

Electricity for all the lights is generated via eco-friendly solar panels and is available twenty four hours a day.  A portable generator is only used for the washing machine and all the ironing is done with a coal iron, like in the earlier days of an bygone era.
For your convenience, we have a daily laundry service, so feel free to make use of it as you wish.

Water is drawn from deep under the earth, stored in a reservoir and gravity fed to the camp. The water is of a very high quality and can be enjoyed straight from the faucet.
Hot water is generated by wood boilers and readily available.

In the kitchen tent, all your culinary needs will be satisfied, as we serve traditional, hearty, unpretentious bush cuisine, which is true to itself, full of flavor, colour and texture. Food is more than a substance to us and more of a time for sharing and trading recipes. Often delicious recipes, passed down through generations are used and exchanged.
The main ingredient of all the meals is the game meat you and your hunting friends harvested during your hunting safari, complimented by fine South African wines. Tantalize your taste buds and visit our bush kitchen page for some great recipe ideas.
With our hands-on approach we can cater for any special dietary requirements and we encourage all our guests to make themselves right at home, helping themselves to soft drinks, beer or wine at the bar and be comfortable enough to ask for a snack if they feel peckish.

After a long day of stalking your quarry, come and relax with us in our traditional grass enclosed boma. Warm up next to the crackling and blazing fire, sending cascades of sparks into the splendid and breathtaking African night sky.
Braais or barbeques are synonymous with life on safari and many dishes are prepared on the open fire or the wood stove in the boma. As you recap your exciting hunting day, friendships and memories are forged, that live long after your hunt is over.

In the multipurpose entertainment tent, you can quench your thirst at the bar, curl up in the sitting are with a book from our small library or take a peek in our photo album of previous hunting safaris.
